Britain's new Prime Minister Andy Burnham has taken leave just two weeks after officially taking office, drawing criticism from the opposition, reports infohub.kz.
According to The Telegraph, the head of government decided to take a break to spend time with his family. His official residence at 10 Downing Street confirmed the information but did not specify how long the PM would be away or where he would go.
Burnham became prime minister only on July 20, and his early vacation has already drawn sharp criticism from the Reform party. Party chairman Lee Anderson said: "Burnham is already fed up. Two weeks in, Andy Burnham has had enough. After reneging on a number of unfunded commitments and allowing over 2,000 illegal migrants into our country, he's gone abroad for a holiday. This is not a prime minister who takes leadership seriously."
The PM's office, in turn, stressed that the government continues to work as usual, and Burnham remains in touch with officials, holds meetings, and receives regular updates on cabinet activities.
Recall that in July, Labour leader Andy Burnham officially became Prime Minister of the UK, succeeding Keir Starmer, who had held the post since July 2024 and announced his departure in a farewell address.
