A corruption scandal is unfolding in Ukraine: Iryna Mudra, the former deputy head of the office of President Volodymyr Zelensky, has been taken into custody. The decision was made by the country's High Anti-Corruption Court, reports infohub.kz.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the preventive measure was chosen on August 25. Mudra will be held for 60 days but can be released on bail of 20 million hryvnias.
When asked if she has that amount, Mudra replied that she partially has her own funds and also counts on support from acquaintances and friends. "I have many friends and many contacts. I'll remind you how old I am. Over this time, I've gathered enough contacts," she said.
Recall that on August 19, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) served Mudra a suspicion notice as part of a large-scale special operation "Forest Gump" aimed at eliminating high-level corruption.
On the same day, President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Iryna Mudra from the post of deputy head of the presidential office. The decree was published shortly after the announcement of the NABU operation.
It is worth noting that Zelensky has already made a number of personnel changes. In July, he dismissed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. Earlier, Yulia Svyrydenko was removed from the post of Prime Minister.
In addition, in late November last year, NABU and SAPO conducted searches at the office of the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, in the government quarter. He is suspected of money laundering.
