At the celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day in Astana on August 24, a young Ukrainian boy performed a kui on the dombra, delighting social media users, reports infohub.kz.
The video of the performance was posted by the boy's mother. According to her, when the family arrived in Kazakhstan, her son became interested in the dombra and wanted to learn to play it.
"An amazing instrument - just two strings, but what a beautiful melody," the woman shared.
Commenters praised the child's playing and thanked him for his respect for Kazakh culture. Among the comments were: "Your son is more Kazakh than I am," "Music doesn't seem to choose a nationality. A person with a good ear can learn to play any instrument. Your boy has a natural talent," and "Great! Ukrainians have a special love for the dombra. My father was a conductor and played piano and guitar. But the dombra was his favorite instrument."
The boy performed the kui "Yerke Sylkym" by composer Abdimomyn Zheldibayev. The piece is dedicated to the beauty of Kazakh girls and the author's unrequited love.
Earlier it was reported that in Kazakhstan, an event took place where about half a million children played kuis on the dombra simultaneously.
