In the trial over the collapse of a residential building facade in Astana that killed emergency paramedic Uldana Myrzuan, victims have filed civil claims against the defendant — Saule Zhubaniyazova, chairwoman of the property owners' association (OSA). The total amount sought exceeds 45 million tenge, infohub.kz reports.
Today in court, representatives of two victims — Kaliyeva and Nurpeisova — filed motions to submit civil claims for moral and material damages.
Kaliyeva's lawyer asked the court to award 10 million tenge from Saule Zhubaniyazova, plus 500,000 tenge in legal representation costs. She added that there was also material damage of 53,000 tenge.
Nurpeisova's lawyer said her client will need a hearing aid and its replacement in the future. The lawyer asked the court to recognize Nurpeisova as a civil plaintiff, stating that material damage amounted to 322,554 tenge, with moral damage estimated at 35 million tenge. The lawyer also asked the court to oblige Zhubaniyazova to pay 960,000 tenge every two years for scheduled replacement of the hearing aid.
Recall that on November 8, 2025, in Astana, the outer brick cladding and an air conditioner fell from the facade of a nine-story residential building. An emergency paramedic was injured at the scene — as the young woman tried to pull a man from the rubble, an air conditioner fell on her head from the ninth floor. She underwent a craniotomy.
On November 18, it became known that the paramedic had died.
On August 18, 2026, an open trial began in Astana in the case of Uldana Myrzuan's death. The chairwoman of the building's OSA, Saule Zhubaniyazova, appeared in the dock.
During the hearing, victims testified — Gulnur Kaliyeva, who became disabled after the incident, and her brother, who rushed to help his sister after receiving a call from her.
The court also learned that among emergency service employees who rescued people, there were dismissals and demotions.
In addition, a former building manager who held the position before Zhubaniyazova was questioned as a witness. According to her, problems in the building existed even before 2020.
The court also showed video footage from surveillance cameras installed in the courtyard of the building where the cladding collapsed. The defendant, Saule Zhubaniyazova, said that those who knew about the building inspection had sold their apartments. She also described how an investigator informed her that she had become a suspect.
Expert Baurzhan Kaziyev also stated that the facade collapse could not have been predicted during an external inspection. Another expert, Dmitry Vorobyov, an employee of Astana Tekhnadzor, said the cause of the collapse was the quality of construction. He also explained that residents could not have known about a possible facade collapse or prevented it without the help of specialists.
