Four railway stations have reopened to passengers in the Ulytau Region following modernization. The upgraded facilities are located in the cities of Jezkazgan and Karazhal, in the Zhanaarka District and at the Kyzylzhar station, according to infohub.kz.
The work was carried out under a project to modernize 125 railway stations across the country, in line with an instruction from President Qasym-Jomart Kemeluly Toqaev and with government support. The project was implemented through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC and the akimat of the Ulytau Region.
The renovated stations meet modern requirements and offer passengers more comfortable conditions. Yesset Baiken, akim of the Ulytau Region, noted that the modernization of the stations is an important step in developing the region's transport infrastructure.
"The Kyzylzhar-Mointy railway line, which is being built on the instructions of the head of state, will not only give a new impetus to the development of our region but will undoubtedly also boost the country's transit potential. In general, large-scale work is under way in the region to develop transport infrastructure. Along with improving rail links, priority attention is being paid to raising the quality of roads. Work on the Jezkazgan-Kyzylorda highway is already 90 percent complete. Traffic is expected to open in the coming months. On the Jezkazgan-Karaganda route, work on the roadbed and material and technical support is to be fully completed this year. In addition, repairs to the 89-kilometer Ulytau-Arkalyk road section will be finished in October," the regional akim said.
The Jezkazgan railway station building was constructed in 1941. It has now undergone a comprehensive modernization for the first time since then. Under the project, the station building's area has been increased from 541 to 2,500 square meters. The renovated station can accommodate around 500 passengers at a time and serve up to 2,000 people a day.
The Ulytau Region is currently linked by rail to six regions of the country. The modernized stations will create more comfortable and safer conditions for residents of the region and visitors to the area.
