The United Nations has appealed to international donors for $49.6 million in emergency aid for Nepal, which has been severely affected by devastating floods, according to infohub.kz.
The four-month emergency response plan was developed jointly with the government of Nepal. Its main goal is to provide support to residents of remote high-altitude areas before winter sets in. Funds will be directed towards direct cash assistance to affected families, provision of temporary shelter and cold-weather materials, supply of clean water, hygiene kits and rapid purification systems, deployment of mobile medical clinics to prevent epidemics, as well as the purchase of portable solar generators and food.
Meanwhile, the first plane carrying humanitarian cargo from UNICEF and the European Union has already arrived in Kathmandu, delivering 84 tons of medicines, tents, and winter clothing. Nepalese authorities note that the total cost of restoring the country's infrastructure will amount to billions of dollars.
Earlier it was reported that on August 26, 2026, a glacial collapse occurred on the border of Nepal and China's Tibet Autonomous Region, triggering massive flooding in the Himalayas. The death toll has reached 1,294 people, with thousands missing. More than 84,000 residents have been affected. Roads, bridges, power lines, and water supply systems have been destroyed.
