Unfavorable meteorological conditions that trap pollutants in the atmosphere are expected in six cities across Kazakhstan on October 9, the website infohub.kz reports, citing data from Kazhydromet.

According to forecasters, these conditions are predicted in Almaty, Atyrau, Aktau, Aktobe and Uralsk, and during the night hours in Zhezkazgan.

Such conditions form during calm weather, light winds, fog and temperature inversions. In this kind of weather, pollutants accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, degrading air quality.

Pollution levels are also affected by precipitation, humidity and air temperature. During periods of unfavorable weather, people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases should monitor their health especially closely.

Residents are advised to spend less time outdoors, especially near busy roads and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women should avoid prolonged walks.

People with chronic illnesses and allergies are advised to keep necessary medications on hand. Outdoor sports activities should be moved indoors where possible.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that a storm warning had been issued for October 9 in 14 regions of Kazakhstan. According to Kazhydromet forecasts, wind gusts of up to 28 meters per second are expected in Pavlodar Region and Zhetisu. Heavy rain and snow are forecast in the mountains of East Kazakhstan Region, while extreme fire danger will persist in several western and southern regions.
