A United Airlines jet flying from Washington to Amsterdam declared a general emergency over the Atlantic Ocean and changed course toward the Canadian city of St. John's, infohub.kz reports.
According to RIA Novosti, citing the Flightradar24 service, the aircraft, en route from the US capital to the Dutch capital, squawked an emergency and diverted toward St. John's. "The plane flying from Washington to Amsterdam declared an emergency and changed course, heading to St. John's," the service said.
According to the service, the aircraft departed Washington on Sunday at 20:47 local time (Monday 7:47 Astana time). However, it later transmitted Squawk 7700 over the Atlantic, indicating a "general emergency." The aircraft turned around and is currently flying toward Canada to St. John's International Airport.
At the time of publication on Flightradar24, this aircraft was the most tracked flight, with 3,540 people following it.
Code 7700 is a universal transponder code that pilots set in the event of a general emergency on board. It is not necessarily linked to an immediate threat of disaster.
Earlier, it was reported that an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai made an emergency landing in Hyderabad after a power bank caught fire in the cabin.
