Uralsk held a farewell ceremony for Ivan Gapich, a World War II veteran and recipient of the title "Khalyk Kaharmany," who passed away at the age of 103, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Deputy Prosecutor General Galymzhan Koigeldiev, heads of regional prosecutor's offices, representatives of state bodies, veterans, relatives, and city residents attended the ceremony.
"Ivan Stepanovich's name will forever remain in the history of the national prosecutor's office as a symbol of courage, honest service to the state, and unwavering dedication to his work," said Deputy Prosecutor General Galymzhan Koigeldiev, expressing condolences on behalf of the head of the supervisory body, Berik Asylov.
Ivan Gapich fought throughout the Great Patriotic War, participating in the liberation of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Ukraine. He was one of the participants in the Victory Parade on Red Square on June 24, 1945, and 65 years later, he walked across it again during the anniversary celebrations.
After the war, Gapich worked in the prosecutor's office for over 40 years. During this time, he headed the prosecutor's offices of several regions, held senior positions in the central office of the department, and for the last two decades of his service, he was the first deputy prosecutor of the West Kazakhstan region.
The title "Khalyk Kaharmany" was awarded to Ivan Gapich for his contribution to the defense of the country and his long years of public service.
