A popular American alternative-medicine advocate, Matt Reske, said on social media that he has been drinking water from a radium-laced pitcher for 250 consecutive days, according to infohub.kz.
As Gizmodo reports, the influencer uses a Revigator pitcher — a pseudo-medical device popular in the 1920s whose interior is lined with radioactive ore. Reske claims the radium-enriched water supposedly helps flush toxins from the body and is completely safe for health. According to him, the US authorities' ban on such devices nearly a century ago was driven by a conspiracy rather than concern for citizens.
Radioactive tableware and radium tonics were actively sold in the early 20th century as means to boost vitality and rejuvenate. However, the sale of such products was banned about a century ago because of proven harm: regular consumption of radium causes severe radiation injury, destruction of bone tissue and cancer.
Despite scientific evidence of radiation's deadly danger, the blogger's videos are collecting thousands of likes, and his project has hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Experts remind that following such advice from social media poses a direct threat to life and health.
