A US court has sentenced Afghan militant Mohammad Sharifullah, linked to the attack on Crocus City Hall near Moscow and other terrorist operations, the US Department of Justice reported, according to infohub.kz.
According to the department, Sharifullah, a member of ISIS (Islamic State), which is banned in Kazakhstan, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for providing material support and resources to the terrorist organization.
According to the US Justice Department, in March 2024, when the attack on Crocus City Hall in the Moscow region occurred, Sharifullah, on behalf of ISIS, provided the attackers with instructions on using AK rifles and other weapons, and maintained contact with them during the assault.
In addition, Sharifullah was involved in the bombing in Kabul during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 and a number of other terrorist operations.
On the evening of March 22, 2024, Russia's FSB reported that shooting and a fire had occurred at Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow. A concert by the band Piknik was scheduled to take place there at the time. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into the terrorist attack.
March 24 was declared a day of national mourning in Russia. It was noted that the number of injured at Crocus City Hall was 551, with 144 killed.
In March of this year, a court sentenced 15 of the 19 defendants in the Crocus City Hall attack case to life imprisonment — the case was heard by the Second Western District Military Court.
