A US court has delivered a verdict that once again calls into question the president's authority to restrict the press: the exclusion of CNN, MS NOW, and Politico correspondents from the White House has been ruled unlawful, infohub.kz reports.
According to Deutsche Welle, Judge Timothy Kelly ruled that President Donald Trump's decision to revoke the journalists' credentials "likely violates their constitutional rights." The court order states that the administration must restore access for representatives of these outlets to the White House.
Recall that on September 18, the US president announced he was barring CNN, MS NOW, and Politico correspondents from the White House, claiming these outlets spread fake news. The very next day, journalists from these newsrooms reported they were denied entry to the building.
Later, Donald Trump posted an image of garbage bags bearing the logos of these news organizations.
After that, it emerged that CNN, MSNBC, and Politico, whose journalists were banned from the White House, filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump. Amid the scandal, several leading US media outlets announced a boycott of the administration — television networks suspended pool coverage of events involving the White House.
