A US family accidentally discovered that their 19-year-old cat named Chloe is alive a year and a half after they paid for her euthanasia and cremation, according to infohub.kz.
As People reports, the American family turned to a veterinary clinic when their elderly cat became seriously ill. Doctors assessed the condition of the 19-year-old pet as critical and suggested euthanasia. The owners said goodbye to their beloved pet, paid for the euthanasia and cremation procedures, and then received an urn with ashes.
The truth was revealed only 18 months later in a completely random way. A local animal shelter posted a photo on social media of an elderly cat looking for a new home. The owners instantly recognized Chloe thanks to her distinctive markings.
It turned out that a veterinary clinic employee refused to perform the euthanasia, took pity on the animal, and secretly handed it over to animal rights activists.
The clinic acknowledged the violation of rules and failure to provide the paid service. Representatives of the institution paid the family full compensation and promised to conduct an internal investigation.
The shocked owners immediately took Chloe back home from the shelter, where she is once again surrounded by love and care.
