CNN: US used nearly 80% of missile defense stockpiles in Iran conflict

According to CNN, the US military has expended nearly 80% of its stockpile of a key missile defense system during the military conflict with Iran, reports infohub.kz.

Senior US military officials warn that Pentagon ammunition reserves are at "dangerously low levels." The inventories of major air defense systems have been particularly depleted during the war with Iran.

Two sources familiar with the situation said the military has used nearly four-fifths of its pre-war stock of THAAD interceptors and about half of its Patriot interceptors. Before the conflict with Iran, the US had approximately 2,200 Patriot missiles (of the two most modern variants) and 452 THAAD missiles, according to an estimate by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

US allies in the Gulf states have also expressed new concerns about how the shortage of air defense systems could affect their ability to repel potential Iranian retaliatory strikes. Notably, at the end of July, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the costs of the conflict with Iran amounted to $37.5 billion.
