The U.S. Senate on July 29 voted to advance a new sanctions bill against Russia for the second time, according to the website infohub.kz.
Eighty-four senators voted in favor of moving the bill forward, while 12 opposed. The House of Representatives had previously supported the initiative. The late Senator Lindsey Graham is a co-author of the bill.
Moscow considers the anti-Russia sanctions illegitimate and ineffective.
The bill would impose 100% tariffs on the five largest buyers of Russian energy and 500% tariffs on all imports from Russia to the U.S. Countries that account for less than 15% of Russia's annual gas exports would be exempt if they reduce purchases.
The bill also sanctions the Central Bank of Russia, Sberbank, VTB, and Gazprombank. It also requires U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a complete ban on imports of Russian uranium, including from the state-owned Rosatom corporation, and periodically impose restrictions on its leadership.
