The United States has struck Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent the laying of naval mines. In response, Tehran announced an attack on American airbases in Jordan. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces struck two Iranian launch sites on Larak Island after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel were spotted preparing to launch missiles with naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM emphasized that the actions were limited and precise, aimed at eliminating an immediate threat.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, CENTCOM said: "The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC) recently claimed that US strikes, aimed at preventing the IRGC from laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, were an 'act of aggression.' This claim is absolutely false. US forces took limited, precise action against IRGC forces that were laying mines and posing an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz. In essence, Iran created the threat, and US forces eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global trade."
According to Xinhua news agency, the IRGC said it carried out a combined strike on US airbases in Jordan in response to US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran's Larak Island on Sunday. Iranian sources reported that the strikes targeted maintenance infrastructure and fighter jet parking areas at King Hussein and Al-Azraq bases, causing significant damage.
