The United States has persuaded Ukraine to stop attacking vessels near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which is critical for Kazakhstan's oil exports to global markets, reports infohub.kz.
According to RBC, citing Bloomberg, US administration officials met with Ukrainian leadership to discuss a series of attacks on ships near the CPC marine terminal. An unnamed US official said they managed to convince the Ukrainian side to refrain from strikes on oil tankers and infrastructure in the Black Sea that are important for Kazakhstan's oil exports.
The article notes that Kyiv has set up contact points through which shipowners can transmit information and safely transit the Black Sea.
As a reminder, the latest attack occurred on July 30. The CPC press service then issued a statement about a strike on a tanker in the waters of the marine terminal, calling it "terrorist." It was reported that the tanker Niffos Sifnos, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, was damaged. The cargo shipper is Tengizchevroil LLP (Chevron, Kazakhstan). The tanker was loading oil at the single point mooring.
Later, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy commented on the incident.
