Kazakhstan has recorded a record drop in prices for used passenger cars, with monthly declines not seen since 2016, according to infohub.kz.
Data from the First Credit Bureau shows that in July, prices for used cars fell by 3.8% compared to June. Such a significant monthly decrease has not been observed in the bureau's entire history of monitoring, which began in January 2016. Similar rates of decline were previously recorded in June 2024.
Experts note that used passenger cars have been getting cheaper in seven of the last nine months, with an average monthly decline of 1.4%. Given that the dynamics were previously almost flat, prices are also falling on an annual basis: by July 2025, the drop reached 7%. Overall, the noticeable depreciation of used cars is becoming a characteristic feature of recent years. In contrast to the current situation, before April 2022, their value rarely decreased by 0.5% or more in a month.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, new passenger cars are also becoming cheaper. The decline has continued for ten consecutive months, with a 1% drop in July. On an annual basis, compared to July 2025, the cost of new cars has decreased by 12.2%.
Meanwhile, automotive market experts claim that the real picture is somewhat different from official statistics. According to them, prices for used cars remain high, while the cost of new cars is indeed falling.
