In Ust-Kamenogorsk, police have solved a series of crimes committed by a 25-year-old local resident. The man scrapped someone else's Mazda and then stole another car, reports infohub.kz.
According to the information media portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the first victim was the owner of a Mazda Cronos that had been parked in a residential courtyard for a long time. Without any rights to the vehicle, the man called a tow truck via a mobile app, took the car away, and sold it to a scrap metal collection point.
"For this, the criminal received 35,000 tenge. The owner suffered damage of about 1 million tenge," the statement says.
A week later, the man committed another crime. While visiting, he noticed keys to a LADA 21703 left in the hallway, took them, and drove off without the owner's permission.
"In addition, it was established that the suspect had previously been deprived of the right to drive for seven years. When the car was stopped by patrol police, a medical examination confirmed his state of drug intoxication — cannabinoids were found in his body," police added.
Criminal cases have been opened against the suspect. He has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
Police reminded that illegal seizure of someone else's property and driving while intoxicated entail liability provided by law.
