A 40-year-old police officer was killed in a cafe in Ust-Kamenogorsk in the early hours of October 4 during a confrontation, the website infohub.kz reports.

Footage from the scene was published by the Telegram channel Nalyqstan. According to its information, the man was off duty at the establishment. He reprimanded a patron who was behaving inappropriately. In response, the man caught up with him on the street and kicked him in the face.

The man died from his injuries.

Local public pages initially reported the incident. At the same time, Ust-Kamenogorsk residents noticed police checks of vehicles in the city on October 4. Cars were stopped, including on the Ulba Bridge, and drivers' documents were checked. Social media users speculated that law enforcement might have been searching for the person involved in the conflict.

Later, the Police Department of the East Kazakhstan Region confirmed the death of its officer and reported the detention of a suspect.

"A criminal case has been opened into the incident. The suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility," police said.

The department clarified that the investigation is ongoing, so other details are not being disclosed in the interests of the probe.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote about the murder of 37-year-old senior operative Aslan Alserov, whose charred body was found in the mountains of the Almaty Region. Several people were detained in the case, including the wife and son of the slain police officer.
