Conscript soldiers from military unit 5518 discovered nearly 60 bundles containing an unknown powdery substance in the courtyard of a residential building in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the National Guard, the guardsmen spotted the suspicious item while patrolling the city streets. Dozens more similar bundles were subsequently found.
"During patrols, we carefully inspect the area, including dark and hidden places. Walking near dense trees, I noticed a suspicious item. From its appearance, I suspected it might contain a substance resembling a narcotic. I immediately reported to the commander of the military detail, after which an investigative-operational group was called to the scene," said Private D. Khasenov.
In total, the guardsmen found about 60 bundles. They were wrapped in red, blue, and black electrical tape.
"The discovered bundles have been seized and sent for examination. Specialists will need to determine their exact composition and identify the type of substance," the National Guard said in a statement.
