Uzbekistan has proposed life imprisonment for the rape of children under the age of fourteen. The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis adopted the corresponding amendments in the first reading, reports infohub.kz.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis, the bill provides for life imprisonment for certain especially grave sexual crimes against children.
"The bill also includes provisions aimed at toughening penalties for violence and sexual assault against children, strengthening the legal protection of minors who have been victims of violence, preventing such cases, and increasing the accountability of relevant organizations and officials," the Legislative Chamber said in a statement.
Certain provisions of the document address the most serious sexual crimes. They propose establishing long prison terms or life imprisonment for such offenses.
"First of all, it is proposed to radically toughen punishment for especially grave sexual crimes committed against children. In particular, it provides for the imposition of a long prison term or life imprisonment for the rape of a person under the age of fourteen, or for the violent satisfaction of sexual needs in an unnatural form," the publication states.
