Scientists at Sechenov University are developing Russia's first vaccines for allergies to cats and dogs. The vaccine against cat allergies is preparing for clinical trials, while the vaccine for dog allergies is in active development. Allergist-immunologist Ksenia Ryabova, a researcher at the university's Institute of Molecular Medicine Laboratory of Immunopathology, told RIA Novosti, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the specialist, the laboratory is actively working on creating such drugs: the vaccine for cat allergies awaits clinical studies, and the vaccine for dog allergies is in the active development stage.
Additionally, the lab's scientists have developed a test system called "Allergochip RF." As part of the project, the university became the first in Russia to profile patients from various regions and created a test that can determine heightened individual sensitivity to more than 120 allergens.
Ksenia Ryabova explained that the profiling results will allow the production of more compact versions of the Allergochip RF with fewer allergens—for instance, 20 instead of 120. This would reduce the cost of the test system and make modern allergy diagnostics more accessible to residents across the country.
"Thanks to profiling, we will be able to produce allergen chips with fewer than 120 allergens, for example, twenty. This will make the product cheaper and available in any corner of our country," the specialist concluded.
