Kazakhstan national football team head coach John van 't Schip has commented on the possibility of his resignation following a home defeat to Moldova, reports infohub.kz.
The specialist called his own coaching decision in the match against Moldova a mistake. "I think it was my mistake as a coach: I wanted to play more attacking against Moldova, to position midfielders between the lines. Unfortunately, we didn't benefit from it. We did everything to equalize, but in football you also need luck, which we lacked today," ASnews.kz quoted him as saying.
According to the coach, now "winning the group after home defeats and the setback against Slovakia will be very difficult." The coach stated that the team will try to redeem itself and show that it has passion and will to win.
Van 't Schip was also asked whether he plans to step down after the defeat to Moldova. "As for calls for resignation — that's not my decision. I hope to continue working. It's clear that when you win, you have many friends, and when you lose, you have almost none. That's part of a coach's job," he replied.
Recall that the day before, the Kazakhstan men's national football team suffered a home defeat to Moldova in the UEFA Nations League 2026/27 season. The visitors won 2-1.
The national team has suffered its second consecutive defeat. Under the guidance of Dutch coach John van 't Schip, it has not yet won.
