US Vice President JD Vance has not ruled out skipping the 2028 presidential race. According to him, the current congressional elections could influence that decision, NBC reports, as covered by infohub.kz.
The politician noted that the results of the midterm elections could affect his decision to run for the nation's highest office.
"These decisions are made like this: you gather as much information as possible and try to make a balanced decision. And yes, whatever happens in the next 35 days, there will be new information, new circumstances on which you'll have to base a decision," Vance explained.
Commenting on the upcoming elections, the US vice president added that Republicans "historically always have to climb uphill."
"I also think there's a sense of cautious optimism in that people feel the numbers are moving, perhaps, in our direction," he said.
Vance also noted that "politically it will always be difficult to win the midterms when you have the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives."
Earlier, sources told The Washington Post that Vice President JD Vance should be the Republican Party's presidential nominee. President Donald Trump allegedly made that decision and recently told party donors.
However, Trump himself later said it was still "too early to think about it."
