US Vice President JD Vance is seeking to unite Republicans dissatisfied with Donald Trump's policies and win their support for the 2028 presidential election, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to Fox News, the effort involves building a new political coalition of Trump supporters who disagree with his foreign policy course, as the vice president prepares for a future presidential campaign.
After Republicans' defeat in the midterm elections, Vance issued a statement criticizing the administration's foreign policy. He said the war with Iran was the main reason for the loss.
"The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night," the vice president wrote.
He also listed four steps he believes would help win voters back: ending the conflict with Iran, focusing on the cost of living and inflation, adhering to the "America First" principle, and revisiting relations with Israel.
A Trump administration official told Fox News that Vance's ideas are aimed at the so-called "new right" — Republicans opposed to US involvement in foreign conflicts who support closing the borders and affordable living for American families. Some of them also believe Trump is too heavily focused on Israel in his foreign policy.
The source stressed that Vance does not intend to break with the president. Rather, he wants to reach out to voters who support Trump but disagree with his foreign policy course.
Vance is already being named as one of the possible Republican candidates in the 2028 election. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also among the potential contenders.
