Venice authorities are considering a significant increase in the fee for access to the city's historic center for day-trippers. Starting in 2027, the price of the "entry ticket" could rise from the current 5–10 euros (2,500–5,000 tenge) to 30–50 euros (15,000–25,000 tenge), according to infohub.kz.
The initiative was put forward by Michele Zuin, the city administration's budget councilor. In an interview with Gazzettino, he explained that the main goal of the measure is to limit the flow of so-called "day-trippers," who visit the city briefly and place excessive strain on infrastructure.
"The request to the government to introduce a higher access fee is not for profit. The problem is that the current 5–10 euros is now affordable to everyone. The risk is that they no longer have the deterrent effect this measure should provide," Zuin was quoted as saying by Il Fatto Quotidiano.
After the pilot phase ends, the payment system will become permanent in 2027. The authorities plan not only to revise the price but also to expand the calendar of days on which access payment is required.
Zuin noted that the final price of "entry" to the city for tourists must be agreed with the central government.
