The verdict in the case concerning the death of legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona will be announced on December 22, after the final hearing was held the day before, at which the athlete's relatives testified, infohub.kz reports.
Medical workers are in the dock in this case. According to the prosecution, they failed to provide the Argentine with proper care and treatment. According to the latest data, prosecutors have requested sentences of between four and 12 years in prison for them.
Recall that Diego Maradona died on November 25, 2020, at the age of 61. The cause of death was acute heart failure, which led to pulmonary edema.
Maradona was the 1986 world champion and is considered one of the best footballers in history. Following a vote on the official website of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), he was named the best footballer of the 20th century.
As the BBC Russian Service reported earlier, back in 2021 a commission of 20 experts examining the circumstances of Maradona's death found the actions of the medical team to be "inappropriate, inadequate and irresponsible."
Note that a new trial in the Maradona death case began in Argentina in April of this year.
