Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced his return to political struggle and his intention to oppose the government of incumbent Prime Minister Peter Magyar, reports infohub.kz.
Orban made the statement at an event marking the opening of the political season in the town of Kecskéd.
"We were patient. Perhaps even more than we should have been. And we were fair, given how they behaved — perhaps even more than we should have been. Five months have passed. That phase is over. All of it, it's over. This cannot continue. The time for national resistance has come. Patience is over, fair treatment is over, all unilateral gestures are over. We must pick up the gauntlet and fight," the former prime minister said.
According to Orban, right-wing forces in Hungary want the country to be sovereign, while Magyar's government intends to turn it "into a colony of the European Union."
"They will hand over the economy — the Hungarian economy, which we worked so hard to make Hungarian again: the energy sector, the banking sector, telecommunications — all of it they will return to foreigners. Money will flow out of the country. They will ruin large Hungarian companies and hand them over to foreigners," he said, calling Brussels a colonizer.
It is worth noting that last week Peter Magyar announced the start of drafting a new constitution for Hungary. According to the prime minister, it will put an end to arbitrariness in the country.
