Kazakhstan's boxing team suffered another loss at the 2026 Summer Asian Games in Japan as Viktoriya Grafeyeva exited the 60 kg weight class, infohub.kz reports.
In the round of 16, the Kazakh athlete faced Lin Yu-ting of Chinese Taipei, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion and winner of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. For both boxers, this bout was their first at the current competition.
The contest went the full three rounds. The first two rounds were awarded to Yu-ting by the majority of judges, though she had one point deducted in the second round. In the third round, Grafeyeva had the advantage.
Overall, the Kazakh boxer came out ahead on the scorecards of two officials. Three other judges, taking into account the deducted point, had the bout even but each sided with Yu-ting. Thus, the Chinese Taipei representative won by split decision 3:2 and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Grafeyeva, meanwhile, ended her run at the 2026 Asian Games. This is already the second loss for Kazakhstan's women's boxing team after Nazym Kyzaibay (up to 54 kg). In the men's team, Sabyrzhan Akkalykov (up to 80 kg) and Orazbek Asylkulov (up to 60 kg) have already been eliminated.
