Volkswagen has unveiled the Mission Efficiency prototype, which it calls the most economical electric vehicle in its class. The coupe set three world records at once, and its design uses technologies intended for mass production, according to infohub.kz.

The main achievement of the Mission Efficiency is its drag coefficient of Cd 0.158. This is a record among vehicles approved for road use.

Its second result is 6.48 kWh per 100 km in an ideal run at a constant speed of 68 km/h. On the official route from Wolfsburg to Vienna, nearly 1,300 km long, the EV showed 6.89 kWh per 100 km excluding charging losses. Including them, consumption was 7.51 kWh.

The average speed on the route reached 67.72 km/h, with a maximum of 138 km/h. The 54.9 kWh battery was charged once along the way, and 164 km of range remained in Vienna.

The Mission Efficiency concept has a streamlined body with a small frontal area, a closed underbody and covered rear wheels. The door handles are recessed into the body, and the windows are frameless.

According to Volkswagen chief designer Andreas Mindt, the DNA of the Volkswagen XL1 can be seen in the Mission Efficiency's looks. It was presented in 2013 with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and was then considered the most economical production car in the world.

The car is 4,775 mm long and 1,392 mm tall. The interior has four seats in a 2+2 layout, and the trunk volume is 481 liters.

Aerodynamics alone is not responsible for the efficiency. The Mission Efficiency uses a 99-kilowatt electric motor from the new ID. Polo, front-wheel drive and MEB+ technology. Volkswagen developed special tires together with Continental and also installed patented deflectors on the wheel rims.
