Christian Volpato, a midfielder for Italian club Sassuolo and the Australian national team, has tested positive for cocaine, according to infohub.kz.
According to The Sun, the Australian football star was pulled over twice by police on the same night for speeding in Sydney. On Thursday evening, the 22-year-old was driving at nearly 94 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A breathalyzer test for alcohol came back negative, but two hours later he was stopped again—this time for driving 109 km/h in the same zone—and a drug test revealed the presence of cocaine. New South Wales Police issued him a speeding fine, suspended his international driving license for six months, and took a second oral fluid sample for further analysis. Volpato, who previously played for Italy's youth national teams, switched his sporting nationality to Australia in early 2026 and played in three matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
