Foreign ministers from eight countries issued a joint statement condemning United States sanctions against the International Criminal Court. The document was signed by the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands, according to infohub.kz.
The signatories reaffirmed their unwavering and steadfast support for the independence, impartiality and integrity of the International Criminal Court.
"As strong supporters of the ICC, we regret and firmly disagree with the United States' announcement of sanctions against the Court," the statement said.
The foreign ministers noted that the restrictive measures would affect the work of the judicial body.
"Nevertheless, if imposed, these sanctions will have a significant impact on the Court's operations, its dedicated staff and their families. Every day they work to hold accountable those accused of the most serious international crimes and to support their victims," the document emphasized.
The countries pledged to continue working together to support the vital work of the International Criminal Court, strengthen the rules-based international system and ensure accountability for perpetrators.
It is worth noting that the United States previously imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court.
