A wedding celebration in the Democratic Republic of Congo turned tragic when a fire killed more than 20 people, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by RIA Novosti, citing the Actualite portal, the deadly incident occurred in a banquet hall during a wedding in the capital, Kinshasa. The mayor of the Lingwala commune, Norbert Mushiga Nzindula, spoke about the tragedy.
"According to preliminary data as of the morning of September 5, 2026, 22 people have died, and numerous injured have been hospitalized," the mayor's statement said.
He noted that the cause of the fire is still unknown but emphasized that, according to preliminary information, the high number of casualties is due to the fact that evacuation of guests after the fire started was hampered by the presence of only one exit. The mayor added that this door appeared to be relatively narrow, and the general panic and heavy smoke worsened the situation.
