Inflation in Kazakhstan slowed to 9.8% year-on-year in August 2026, down from 10.2% in July. On a monthly basis, price growth remained unchanged at 0.6%, according to the website infohub.kz.

According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the highest regional price growth was recorded in the North Kazakhstan Region (12%), Zhetysu Region (11.7%), Akmola Region (11.6%), and Turkistan Region (11.3%). Inflation above the national average was also observed in the Almaty Region (10.7%), Ulytau Region (10.6%), Shymkent (10.4%), Atyrau Region (10.2%), Zhambyl and Kyzylorda Regions (both 10.0%), and Kostanay Region (9.9%).

The lowest price growth for goods and services was recorded in the Karaganda Region (8.1%), Almaty (8.7%), and Pavlodar Region (9.0%).

Among inflation components, there is also a slowdown. Food prices rose by 9.8% over the year (compared to 10.1% in July). The largest increases were seen in sausages and meat products (14.3%), fermented milk products (13%), meat and poultry (12.9%), non-alcoholic beverages (12.4%), and cheese and cottage cheese (10.4%). At the same time, fruits, berries, and nuts became cheaper by 0.7%, and vegetables by 2.5%.

Non-food goods increased in price by 11.4% (compared to 11.7% in July). The largest growth was observed in personal care products (13.1%) and gasoline (12.8%), while the smallest was in footwear (10.8%) and clothing (10.2%).

Paid services rose by 8.9% over the year (compared to 9.2% in July). The largest increases were in tariffs for gas distributed through networks (20%), housing rent (17.1%), and maintenance, repair, and security of residential premises (13.1%). The smallest increases were in central heating (0.1%), waste removal (0.7%), and wastewater services (1.5%). Meanwhile, cold water became cheaper by 40.9%.

Thus, overall, there is a slowdown in inflation and its components on an annual basis, but on a monthly basis, price growth remained at 0.6%.
