Trade and Industry Minister Arman Shakkaliev explained the reasons behind rising meat prices in Kazakhstan during a briefing at the government, reports infohub.kz.
During the briefing, journalists cited statistics showing that meat has significantly increased in price again. According to media reports, lamb saw the highest annual price increase at 27.7%, followed closely by beef, ground meat, and chicken legs. The press asked what is driving this growth.
"Yes, indeed, we see dynamics in meat products. Currently, price dynamics are moderate, with growth but moderate. The key point is that meat is available for sale. For example, we monitored the market last weekend: 3,700 tenge per kilogram for beef on the bone, slightly higher in retail chains," admitted Arman Shakkaliev.
He attributed the price increase to high demand for meat, noting that beef consumption has significantly risen in many countries. "We are an integral part of global processes, so if there is growth, for example, in Uzbekistan, with increased demand, our businesses naturally choose to sell there. The well-known events in the Persian Gulf have affected the volatility of lamb prices. But I want to reiterate that we do not see explosive volatility at present. Prices are changing but remain generally stable, and there are no disruptions in the supply of livestock products," the minister stated.
