In the Altyn-Emel State National Natural Park, a camera trap captured a rare scene: a wolf and a group of kulan arrived at the same waterhole almost simultaneously. Usually, these animals avoid each other, but the intense heat has changed their behavior, reports infohub.kz.
The wolf, noticing the kulan, stopped at a distance. The predator and its potential prey watched each other carefully, but neither side made any sudden moves or left. After a while, all the animals continued drinking water, maintaining their distance.
For the kulan, the wolf is a natural predator, so in normal circumstances these animals try to avoid encounters. However, at the waterhole, the rules change: in extreme heat, the need for water increases, and animals must use the same sources.
Instead of the usual chase, this time there was a brief pause. The wolf stood calmly near the kulan, then turned and walked away, leaving the animals at the water. The camera trap captured this moment—a rare scene in the wild where a predator and its potential prey briefly became neighbors.
