A woman in Virginia had a shocking wake-up call when she found a bat trying to crawl into her mouth early in the morning. The incident occurred in Richmond, where the woman lives in a house built nearly a century ago. According to gastroenterologist Dr. Christa Edelman, she felt something wet and furry on her lips, and when she opened her eyes, she was horrified to realize it was a bat. She screamed and knocked the animal to the floor, then covered it with a bucket and sought medical help, reports infohub.kz.
Emergency physician Adam Landsi explained that bats have very small teeth, so their bites often go unnoticed, but they pose a high risk of rabies. Virginia Department of Health specialist Julia Murphy recommended contacting experts immediately upon finding bats. The animal was sent for testing, which took two days and came back negative for rabies. Edelman posted a video on social media to warn people about the proper actions in such situations.
