A 69-year-old woman lost both legs in a tragic accident on Lake Alakol in the Zhetysu region, according to the Department for Emergency Situations and police, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the Instagram account krisp.tdk, the victim was caught under the propeller of a large boat reversing.
The Department for Emergency Situations stated that on July 16, 2026, in the village of Koktuma, Alakol district, a small vessel struck the woman while she was swimming in an unauthorized area where bank reinforcement work was being carried out. She suffered traumatic amputation of both lower limbs and was hospitalized in the central district hospital.
The regional police department reported that a criminal case has been opened over the incident. The circumstances are being investigated. Authorities urged boat owners to strictly follow safety requirements when operating watercraft, especially in crowded recreation areas, and advised vacationers to be cautious and observe water safety precautions.
