In California, USA, a contest for the world's ugliest dog was held. Participants were judged not on appearance, but on personality, character, and personal history. The winner was a six-year-old pug named Ginny Lou, reports infohub.kz.
In 2026, the World's Ugliest Dog contest will turn 50. Organizers emphasize that the goal of the competition is not to mock animals, but to draw attention to adopting dogs from shelters, writes The New York Times.
First place went to Ginny Lou, who was found in the mountains of South Korea. In freezing temperatures, she was left in a wooden crate. Volunteers took the dog to a shelter, from where she came to her owner. Ginny differs from other pugs by her bulging eyes and constantly protruding tongue.
For the win, Ginny Lou's owner, Michelle Grady, will receive $5,000. Additionally, the dog's face will appear on a limited edition beer series — the manufacturer sponsors the contest. Second place went to Pinky, a mix of Pomeranian and albino Chihuahua with a pink muzzle, who won $3,000. Another $2,000 goes to Otto, who has a cleft palate.
Meanwhile, in Kazakhstan, the problem of selling dog meat in cafes has been raised again. Animals are brutally slaughtered and then their meat is sold at low prices. It doesn't matter whether they are stray or have owners.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote about a dog from the Kazakh special forces that jumped with a parachute.
