Ivan Stepanovich Gapich, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, participant in the legendary Victory Parade of 1945 on Red Square, and holder of the highest title of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Halyk Kaharmany," has passed away at the age of 103, reports the website infohub.kz.
Gapich volunteered for the front in 1941 and served as a signalman throughout the war. He took part in the liberation of Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, and Czechoslovakia, and reached Königsberg. For his courage and heroism, he was awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd class, the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, the Order of the Red Star, and other state decorations.
A special place in his biography is held by his participation in the historic Victory Parade on Red Square on June 24, 1945. In 2023, Gapich was awarded the highest title of the Republic of Kazakhstan — "Halyk Kaharmany."
At the Russian House in Uralsk, it was noted that for the staff, Ivan Stepanovich was not only a legendary veteran but also a person with whom they had many years of warm relations.
"It was a great honor for us to congratulate him on holidays and Victory Day, to visit him, to listen to his memories, and to see his unwavering vitality, wisdom, and kindness," the statement said.
The organization expressed deep condolences to Ivan Stepanovich's family and friends, emphasizing that his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
