Famous Greek performer Yorgos Mazonakis died of cardiac arrest in Athens. According to local publication Neos Kosmos, before the tragedy the artist had visited a doctor as part of preparations for planned treatment, reports infohub.kz.
According to an official statement from the hospital where the singer was urgently taken after the appointment, he was brought to the medical facility without a pulse or spontaneous breathing. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed, but the patient could not be saved.
It emerged that before his death, Mazonakis had gone to another clinic for an initial examination ahead of planned treatment. After an intravenous catheter was inserted, the singer complained of severe chest pain, and then cardiac arrest occurred.
Clinic staff called Greece's National Center for Emergency Assistance — a medic arrived seven minutes later and began resuscitation efforts. Soon after, an ambulance arrived and took Mazonakis to the nearest hospital, where after unsuccessful attempts to revive the singer, doctors pronounced him dead.
According to the publication, Yorgos Mazonakis was one of the most popular Greek singers of his generation and had many fans in Greece and Cyprus, and often performed for Greek communities in Germany, Australia, and the United States.
The musician's career began in the 1990s. He became famous for his bold, eccentric, and sometimes provocative outfits, as well as large-scale stage productions. He combined traditional laiko with pop and rock elements in his music, and also appeared on popular television shows, including The X Factor, where he was a judge.
