Kazakhstan's second-ranked women's singles player Yulia Putintseva was eliminated from the WTA 250 clay-court tournament in Hamburg, reports infohub.kz.
The Kazakhstani, ranked 79th in the world and seeded seventh, faced Elina Avanesyan in the second round. The Armenian, who is her country's second-ranked player and currently sits at No. 208 in the WTA rankings, advanced to the main draw through qualifying.
The match went the full three sets, with Putintseva losing 3:6, 6:2, 2:6. The contest lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes.
During the match, the Kazakhstani hit two aces, committed three double faults, and converted eight of eleven break points.
With the loss, Putintseva ends her campaign in Germany. Avanesyan will face Ukraine's Alexandra Oliynykova, the tournament's top seed, in the quarterfinals.
