According to The Telegraph, many commentators viewed Zahara's move as too harsh and categorical. An online theory emerged that the children may have dropped the surname under Jolie's influence. However, there is no evidence or confirmation of this.
Friends and those in the actor's inner circle call the situation "total estrangement." They believe the topic is being used as a weapon against Pitt and note that the actor is struggling deeply with the rift from his children. Pitt himself has previously stated that Jolie is deliberately turning the children against him. The actress completely denies this.
Zahara has become the third child of the famous couple to publicly decide to drop their father's surname amid their high-profile and protracted divorce. The couple finalized their divorce in December 2024, although they separated back in 2016. The eldest adopted son of the Hollywood actors, Maddox, was among the first to begin the surname change process, and a court approved his petition back in September 2024.
The first biological daughter of Jolie and Pitt, Shiloh, filed a petition on her 18th birthday, completely renouncing the double surname. The actors' second daughter, Vivienne, also dropped her father's surname on her 18th birthday, and her twin brother, Knox, had previously removed the Pitt surname from school documents.
To date, Pitt's representatives are refraining from official comment on Zahara's surname change.
