Mykhailo Drapatyi will become the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this in his Telegram channel, according to infohub.kz.
Zelensky noted that together with Drapatyi, acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Yevhen Khmara and deputy head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa, a new structure of the General Staff of the AFU was formed.
According to the Ukrainian leader, former commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi achieved success in defending Kyiv and has come a long way, but the country needs a fresh approach that Drapatyi will offer.
"The defense of Ukraine continues, and every soldier deserves respectful treatment. I am grateful to Oleksandr Syrskyi and each of our soldiers," Zelensky said.
As the president reported, on July 21 he held talks with Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff of the AFU Andriy Hnatov on further forms of service and the proper transfer of powers.
