Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the airspace over Russia has become unsafe due to attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to infohub.kz.
In his Telegram channel, Zelensky addressed airlines, insurers, and all those who continue to use key Russian airports: "Today we want to warn all airlines using Russian airspace, all insurers, and all those who continue to use key Russian airports: the Russian sky is becoming dangerous."
He emphasized that Ukraine does not threaten civilian aviation but warns of the large number of drones in Russian skies. According to him, Russian authorities do not properly inform about the risks, but de facto Russian airspace will be closed. "The war that Russia started is closing its own sky. We in Ukraine do not want to allow the deaths of innocent people. Therefore, we warn our partners: there are no safe areas or safe moments in the Russian sky anymore," the Ukrainian president said.
Zelensky called on airlines flying to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other major Russian cities to heed this warning. He also said that Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other agencies will provide international structures with all necessary information about threats in Russian airspace. "Civil aviation has no place among drones," he concluded.
In response to these statements, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that Moscow will find a response if Kyiv attempts to implement threats to "close the sky." He called Zelensky's announced plans an application for state terrorism.
