Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed details of his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House. The talks between the two presidents lasted about an hour and were held behind closed doors, reports infohub.kz.
After the meeting, Zelenskyy posted on social media platform X that the discussions were held in a "good format." One of the main topics was Ukraine's air defense and further cooperation between Washington and Kyiv. The sides discussed licenses to produce interceptors for Patriot systems, as well as other possible steps to aid Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
"We also talked about diplomacy—it's important to restart the diplomatic process. I am grateful to the United States for their steadfast support," Zelenskyy wrote.
The Ukrainian president also expressed condolences to Trump over the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he called a true friend of Ukraine.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that strengthening missile defense and strategic partnership with the U.S. were the top priorities for the meeting. Ukraine needs additional capabilities to protect against missile strikes.
The White House noted that the meeting took place amid an escalation of several international conflicts. Besides talks with Zelenskyy, Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the situation regarding Iran and tensions in the Middle East.
Zelenskyy and Netanyahu traveled to Washington to attend a memorial service for the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who was a strong supporter of both Israel and Ukraine.
Earlier, ten countries announced the creation of a coalition to develop missile defense. The joint declaration was signed by Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. On the eve of the meeting, Zelenskyy stated that he had already secured an agreement with Trump on licenses to produce Patriot systems.
