Construction of two large factories worth a combined $305 million has begun in the Zhambyl region, with investors from South Korea and China participating in the projects, reports infohub.kz.
In the Taraz industrial zone, a waste recycling plant and a metallurgical plant are being built. The first project is being implemented by ForYou Energy with planned investments of $175 million, involving South Korean investors. The facility will be built in two phases: the first phase will be completed in the first quarter of 2027, and the second in the third quarter of 2029. The plant will be able to recycle up to 900 tons of solid household waste per day and generate up to 20 MW of electricity.
The head of the region noted that investments from Korean partners will give a new impetus to the region's economy. However, according to Adata, ForYou Energy has no Korean participation – it is owned by Kazakh citizens Kagbat Unerbek and Yergali Raimkulov.
The second project – a metallurgical plant worth $130 million – is being implemented by the Taraz Production Combine and the Chinese company Guangdong Wantai Supply Chain Co., Ltd. The plant will produce up to 1 million tons of metal products per year, including hot-rolled steel coils, stainless steel products, welded and galvanized pipes, rebar, and other metal products.
The plant launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028. During construction, 500 jobs will be created, and after commissioning, 260 permanent positions. The Taraz Production Combine is owned by Yergali Raimkulov, who is also a co-owner of ForYou Energy.
Earlier, it was reported that a company from Wuhan plans to build a greenhouse complex for growing flowers and ornamental trees in the Turkestan region.
