A seven-month-old baby suffered a severe hand injury at home in Zhanaozen when his fingers got caught in a metal fan, requiring emergency medical treatment, the website infohub.kz reports.
Orthopedic traumatologist Nursultan Askarov said on his Instagram account that the seven-month-old child was rushed to the trauma center of the Zhanaozen multidisciplinary city hospital with finger injuries sustained at home.
"On examination, a traumatic amputation was diagnosed at the level of the distal phalanges of the II, III and IV fingers of the hand," the doctor wrote.
Medical staff performed primary surgical debridement of the wounds. Because the tip of the fourth finger was missing, they had to form a stump. The third finger remained connected to the hand only by skin tissue — the injury was treated and sutured. The wound on the second finger was also treated and closed with stitches.
"The child has been admitted to the traumatology department for further treatment and observation. After inpatient treatment, the child continued to be monitored by a traumatologist," Nursultan Askarov added.
The doctor also issued a warning to parents: "Dear parents! Do not leave your child unattended near potentially dangerous objects."
