Residents of the Zhetisu region have been warned of a large-scale test of the regional alert system set for September 25. According to the emergency situations department, electronic sirens will sound across the entire region at 11:55 local time, and mobile phones will receive a test message, the website infohub.kz reports.
The department said the exercise is purely technical and is aimed at checking how well the regional alert system works. Along with the electronic sirens, the Mass Alert rapid notification system, which runs on Cell Broadcast technology, will be used — it is through this system that the test message will be sent across the region.
"In this connection, we ask you not to panic and to treat the exercise with understanding. The emergency situations department of the Zhetisu region also reminds residents of the procedure to follow when electronic sirens go off in the event of an emergency," the statement says.
The department also recalled how to act when electronic sirens sound during a real emergency. If the signal catches a person at home, they should turn on the radio and television, listen carefully to the emergency message and act in accordance with the information provided.
For those who are outdoors, a different procedure applies: they should listen to the emergency message broadcast through street loudspeakers and mobile alert units, and then act according to the message.
